Our first home will always hold a special place in my heart. After Eric and I got married in 2013, we decided to rent this North Park apartment for 3 reasons…

  1. It was in Chicago

  2. It fit within our tight budget

  3. Allllll of the natural light ;)

When we moved in, the walls were pale yellow and powdery blue. We had very little style and made due with all of the second hand furniture that we had acquired. But it was OUR home. This was the first place that we could both call our very own… and we loved it.

Pre-babies, I remember watching the Super Bowl on our olive green, microfiber couch and making TGIF appetizers in the oven. I think we even made a fort or two in our living room and guest room. Post-babies, we once brought our queen sized mattress into the living room when Scoutie-boy was only a month old, and it stayed there for Christmas and New Years. I remember staring at him on that bed for hours, nursing and nursing some more, binge watching Friends, and only leaving the bed to use the bathroom and get food. Those were the days! I also remember sitting on our couch often, observing my husband and later, my two boys, and thinking that life doesn’t really get much better than this.

By the time we moved out, we had made it our own. Almost all of the walls were a clean white, and we discovered that modern, minimal, and cozy is our jam. After 5 years, we said goodbye to this sweet place — eyes welling and hearts full to the brim. We couldn’t have asked for a better first home.
